Cal 25 question

Marsh Wise2007-04-13 05:31 UTC
I have seen a lot of pix (okay, I save all I see online) of Cal 25 interiors. My question is, when did they change the galley to the starboard side? Mine had it (since been removed) on the port side... is there somewhere I could go to look at plans year by year? Or at least the changes? Or was this an option. Thanks for any help... Marsh

Yo, Marsh...... you are just looking at it the wrong way. walk on down to-da other end and look back at your boat. it will all be on the right side then.......you'll see. now you be sure and stop by and see fiver in Springfield when she gets there.... you-hear! hope that helps...... :)(: ******************** --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, Marsh Wise <marsh@...> wrote: > > I have seen a lot of pix (okay, I save all I see online) of Cal 25 > interiors. Some CAL 25 History - Was CAL 25 Question

Husar, Charlie2007-04-17 16:06 UTC
Hi, Marsh. It was around 700-800 hull that the interiors changed the most (as you describe). That would have been circa 1968-1969. Keep in mind that an East Coast plant opened around 1967 (NJ, I believe). Looking at first one or two digits of hull number, the even numbers (6xx, 8xx, 10xx, 12xx, and so on) were built in New Jersey, and the odd numbers (7xx, 9xx, 11xx, and so on) were built in California. Most boats here are even numbers. Old Interior - (Sometimes called an "A" Hull) Small sink port aft in cabin on small counter. Dining table starboard. No shelves forward. No quarterberth bunks. Aft is wide open spaces under seat hatches except for water tank in middle under cockpit. Toilet longitudinal in head space on port side with forward bulkhead farther forward than newer boats (shorter vee berth) Newer Interior - Large starboard side counter with sink. Dining table port. Shelves in vee berth area. Two quarterberth bunks. Water tank forward under vee berth. Toilet sideways in head space on port side with head space compressed by moving the forward bulkhead aft. Newest Interior - This one started circa 1974 with the 1500-1600 hulls. Mostly the same as newer, except long shelf/storage space added on port side in main cabin. #$^*#$(& carpet installed on interior walls below shelves forward, and below deck hull joint in main cabin and aft. Looks like boats got heavier as time went on, but there was also more bracing against hull oil canning (if that was ever a thought given the thick hull). A lot of it could have been comfort based to sell a cruising boat. Also some boats have a bilge well at the back of the keel lead ballast, and some have a flat ballast all the way back. No particular hull number pattern her that I could see. My 460 has the well. My 1657 has flat ballast. My 1845 has the well. By the way, 1845 was one of the last CAL 25 flat decks built in March of 1977. Don't know when they stopped in California. Just talked to an owner in CA who has Hull number 2 (This one is barer than even the old interior described above.) I do not believe that original design material exists for the variations. Roger Jones might correct me, but whatever is available is minimal. Other minor variations exist. Hope this helps some. Awesome! (showing my California roots there, huh?!)... Okay, well then if that's how it was, what was removed in this picture (I thought it a galley): pix1 here's another pix if this helps: pix2 Husar, Charlie wrote: > Hi, Marsh. Marsh, I forgot about the mini-hanging locker you have in port forward main cabin. That does not exist in the later boats. Also, the cooler that is the step into the cabin is not on later boats, just a step. The large counter to starboard on the newer ones has a top opening cooler. Somebody went and ripped out your sink and small counter on the aft port main cabin. How uncivilized. So, the hanging locker was converted to drawers? Husar, Charlie wrote: > Marsh, I forgot about the mini-hanging locker you have in port forward > main cabin. That does not exist in the later boats. Marsh, if there are drawers in there, then it is a conversion. Not a bad one. The ONLY original drawer in the boat was starboard forward main cabin under the seat. This large drawer held the old dangerous alcohol stove (would spit alcohol with invisible flame). The sink counter (that you don't have) had doodads to attach the stove and a strap to the ceiling to hold the stove in place so you could cook right next to the little sink (that you don't have). Hey, I DO have the sink, its just not in anything. It's in one of the lockers under the cockpit :-Þ Husar, Charlie wrote: > Marsh, if there are drawers in there, then it is a conversion.
