The 800 is SLOW, the 1000 works great but the ST2000 is hooked into the chartplotter and remote ST6000 display , so I can adjust course from the nav station or the buttons on the ST2000. I believe it also has a faster response time than the 1000.

I've got a '70 Cal 34 with a tiller. It came with a Navico TP5000 tiller pilot. That thing was awesome. I used and abused it for nearly a decade until it finally died. It was like an electric ape and would steer the boat true in nearly any outrageous condition. I think the internal compass failed because it now just does circles. Last year I was prepping for the 225 mile race to Key West and cruise back so I began to search for a new tiller pilot when I came upon the ad for the ST 4000. The one with the seperate display and digital compass readout. That sounded great, so I asked around and heard no bad stories. I tried order it from Tom Vandiver (BSH Marine, Cal 46 and Cal 25) and he said: "Forget it. You don't want it. They are getting returned like crazy." So it comes as no surprise to me that they are now discontinued. What I wonder are: Is the new version, the "S1 Plus Tiller Pilot" any better? The features are exactly what I want. And if not, what else is out there for competition? Any comparables? Seems like manufacturers all want to produce wheel pilots but few make tiller pilots. Inquiring sailors want to know. ~smile~ SMon, "Shady Lady" "cal_9.2_silverswan" <ca… [at] yahoo.com> wrote: --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, "John" <stretchmarx@...> wrote: > > I just bought one so I may be to late to ask this question but, any > preferences in the group over brand of tiller pilots? specificaly > between the raymarine st1000 and the simrad tp10.... as to not > influence opinions I will not state here which one I bought... > > John > I have the Autohelm 800, 1000 and ST2000.
