Sitting on the beach with four Cal owners

Hello Cal-o-philes, Last night I was at a party and we were sitting on the beach enjoying the sunset. A nice group of friends. One couple was getting ready to go north for the summer so we gathered to see them off. We are alI members of the same sailing club. I hadn't thought of it until someone commented that we were all Cal owners. Among the four couples we own a Cal 27 T2, a Cal 27, a Cal 34 and a Cal 3-34. Then it was discussed how it came to be. I crewed with an acquaintence back in the 80's on his Cal 34 in Long Island Sound. I liked it so much, I ended up buying one 15 years later after having moved to Florida. My good friends liked mine so much, they bought a Cal 3-34. A friend of theirs had the T2 already. Meanwhile I met my girlfriend who owned a Cal 25 flat-top. When her best friend met the guy with the T2, they fell in love and eventually married. He met another couple looking for a boat and found them the 27, which they bought and love. So, for a while, we actually had 5 Cal's in the group. My girlfriend and I got tired of taking care of two boats and we can only sail one at a time, so we sold the 25 and concentrated on our 34. But last night, we simply got together because we are all friends and wanted to share a nice time instead of battling for space in the crowded holiday waterways. It was a beautiful night on the beach. We had guitars, bongos, beer and barbecues. A good time was had by a wonderful group of friends brought together by Cal sailboats. Life is good in sunny 'Cal-i-Florida.' ps; the T2 owners want a bigger boat: A Cal 34! --------------------------------- Looking for a deal? Find great prices on flights and hotels with Yahoo! T/2 owners love their boats, odd ducks that they are (the boats!) but many of us want bigger Cals, especially ones with tall headroom, 6'5" or more. few and far between.
