CAL T/4
lewsilverstein2007-05-28 16:54
Folks
Hi from SF Bay. I am the new owner of a CAL T/4, named AMANZI.
Hull number '2', built 1972.
Am seeking info about T/4's in general. It's of course, a quarter
tonner with an IOR of 18. Did the boats have any racing success?
What's the Northern California PHRF? Who was the designer? Does
anyone know about the construction details and/or any known
maintenance problems?
I berth in Vallejo and I'm looking to make a contact with local
foredeck or wannabe foredeck crew. I'm an experienced sailor
(former Dufour 30' Arpege owner) and can mentor willing able bodied
aspirants. Boat has multiple jibs and spinnaker. Plenty of fun for
the foredeck
Also looking for used gear - jib furling gear; self steering for an
outboard rudder; # 16 locking winch handle; rope clutches, blocks
and cheek blocks, snap shackles, etc.
Thanks
Lew

Hi, Lew
Happy Memorial Day. I've always got a chuckle from Dan Dalrimple's
Old Cal page. There's actually a page for the T/4 here:
http://pages.sssnet.com/go2erie/cal24-t4.htm
...which may give you more info.
FYI, I crew on a buddy's T/2 (1/2 tonner and of the same vintage)and
with a cap'n whose smart as paint, we have won quite a few races and
a local championship, too. I have great respect for the designer,
William Lapworth, who fundamentally changed forever the course of
yacht design with a fresh take on hull design.
Best of luck,
Robert Thomas

Lew, another thing. Try Seal's Spars and Rigging over in SF for ANY
CAL rigging. Steve Seal worked at CAL and he does list having some
T/4 stuff which would be helpful if you are considering racing.
