Anchor rodes
johnraxter2007-06-19 19:09
we have had our boat about 8 years. It came with two anchors, rodes
and chain. We have only used the CQR for our overnight anchoring,
about once a month in the "season". Several years ago I switched
rodes, doubled the chain to 30'. Still the rode is about 8-10 years
old minimum, and it maybe as old as boat (20 years old!) we do not
have to anchor during storms (hurricanes) so most of it's life has
spent in the chain locker. I think the most we have anchored in was 20
+ knots. we have mostly mud on the river and occasionsly drop anchor
in the clean sand closer to the sounds.
How long should I trust this chain and rode? how often does everyone
replace theirs?
thanks
John

How does it look? If the nylon is chafed or frayed, or if the
thimbles/shackles/chain are heavily corroded, probably should change them
now.

Hi John,
Just go with 200 feet of ¼ inch hi tensile chain and it should last a while.
:-) Great for the back and arms or incentive to go ahead and get the
windlass.
