Winds of Cal'tember
Fred Haas2007-07-08 22:39 UTC
Six boats responded positively to my query of interest in a Puget
Sound Cal Rendezvous this fall. Eight if you count Reggie and a friend
threatening to "sail" in from the Big Sky. Even Fiver said she'd try
to show up by Bayliner, since BB-54 is under development. That's enough
for me. I've booked moorage and the use of a shore-side party house at
Arabella's Landing in Gig Harbor for Saturday the 8th of September,
I will send a notice to 48 Degrees North to drum up non-listee
interest. I will also personally shame at least two more Cal's from my
dock into showing up, and I urge each of you to do the same. If we get
the word out, I think we'll surprise ourselves at the attendance.
Each boat should make it's own reservations at Arabella's, letting them
know you're with the Cal Group. Moorage is a buck a foot, and includes
the usual shoreside amenities. I will ask for a donation from each boat
to cover the weekend's expenses. The menu will follow Cap't Fatty
Goodlander's recipe for "stone soup,", which is to say a party is
announced, and everyone puts whatever they bring into the"pot". Somehow
there's always more than enough!
Boats indicating interest so far:
Nemesis 3-30 Fred and Sandy Haas
Sleipner 2-29 Richard and Devon Anderson
Capriccio 2-29 Terry Spencer
Windancer 2-27 Nancy and John Williams
Rebecca Shea 2-29 Rick Lobb
Kismet 40 Keith Shroyer

Good work, Fred; if I manage to get afloat by then I'll try and make it. I
recall a recipe from Newfoundland for a type of stone soup: to make a tender
squid chowder you first find a good piece of flint and simmer it, seasoned
with salt and pepper for about an hour then drop in the squid. Leave it on
a warm stove overnight and bring it up to a brisk boil in the morning. By
the afternoon you can start testing the flint with a fork & by the time it's
well done the squid will be nice and tender.

There's many a dip 'tween boat and slip.

Sleipnir's locked in for Sept 8th at Arabella's. Took about 15
minutes for them to find the reservation, somehow it was written down
but not entered into the computer.
Thanks for setting this up Fred.

Hi Fred,
I would love to come down from Vancouver.... but I'll have to see
just how things pan out through the summer.
I'd say it's about a 25% chance with the boat as it would be a couple
of days both ways. I am still making trips down to Bellevue City Hall
for my project there, so I may just try to coordinate a trip with a
leg towards Gig Harbor for that weekend, in my truck...... I'd love
to come down with the boat down though.
Pencil me in.
