You could insert one of the small solar charge regulators between the panel and battery...although at 0.5 amps max output, it might be difficult to overcharge the gel cells. How many amp/hours is the battery bank? I have two batteries--one in each of two banks. They are Prevailer group 27 gel batteries. I think each is about 90 amp-hours.
