Steal This Boat: Cal 22 in NY Cheap, Exc Shape
jm… [at] att.net2007-08-17 17:47 UTC
Well, here's an opportunity. Boat is in Mamaroneck, NY. Available cheap if purchased now.
I've had this boat for a couple of years (been on this list from the beginning mostly lurking). It's in great condition. Looks practically new. Much new rigging and other stuff. Keel removed and reseated last year, and the bilge stays bone dry. Great mainsail. 120 genoa. Brand new Doyle 110. I have a Merc 3.5 outboard on it that is fine for in/out of harbor etc. Plenty of gear (radio etc). This is a ready-to-go, fine sailing, very pretty, very nice boat.
I smashed my hand (it is taking forever to type this), and am out of commission for the season. I was planning to get a bigger boat next year anyway (kids are bigger now, we're ready). So I am having the boat hauled. But before I incur hauling and storage fees, you can buy this boat CHEAP.
I paid $6700 for it in Fall 2005, and I've put a couple grand in it. I figure if I wait til the Spring, I can probably get $6k for it easy. But I currently owe the yard $1k, and hauling, winterizing and storage will be another $2500 or so. So if I pay all that now, pay a broker in the Spring, and put up with all the hassle, I might clear a couple grand on the Spring sale. If I can clear a couple grand now, without going through that... well, that's just as good.
So: buy this boat fast, and you can have it for $3000. That's right, three grand. The sails alone cost that much. But if I have to pay the hauling and storage, I may as well wait and try for the Spring.
Email or let me know if you are interested. I would consider interesting trades (a Laser?, a Whaler?). I will be looking at 27-30 foot boats next year.
Here are a few older photos of the boat (it looks nicer now):

I can email more photos later.

Site asks for a email/password. How about a site that doesn't?
Couple of people here at work toying with idea of getting a small
boat if price is right.
