CDI Roller Furler

Hello! I would like to hear from people who own or have owned a CDI flexible roller furler. We are thinking about putting a roller furler on our Cal 29 and for the price and features a CDI seems like a no brainer. Let me know how yours worked for you.

I have not, but a guy I sail with regularly put one on his Catalina 30. It works well, smoothly and with little effort. If you are concerned with luff tension, it is not a good choice. Other than that, for day sailing it seems to be a good choice. I've helped install two, and installation has it little issues and tricks. If you do buy one, I can relate some. td From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of otz1959 Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 12:50 AM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: [Cal_Boats] CDI Roller Furler Hello! The owner of CDI, Tom Livingston, has his Irwin outfitted with 3 CDI furlers, and has sold several to other sailers in the marina. Everyone loves them, I haven't heard any complaints or issues with any. Don Trepanier '74 Cal 29 MOSES Cayuga Lake, NY otz1959 wrote: > > Hello! We have one on our Cal 27 T/2. I think without it, the wife would have stopped sailing with me long ago. Works perfectly fine. I got mine from thesailwarehouse.com. With a new 135 Jib with the sunbrella leech+fott addon, the CDI Furler (CDI FF6), and the furler kit (blocks, line, etc) the total was only ~$1600 (including shipping). It was certainly a no brainer... I believe it was Practical Sailor that did a survey a few years back - and ~99% of CDI Furler owners said they'd buy one again. -Chris Floyd ----- Original Message ----- From: otz1959 To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 12:49 AM Subject: [Cal_Boats] CDI Roller Furler Hello! I purchased my CDI flexible furler last month... the plastic luff was difficult to deal with and it is still not "straight"... it has a few small kinks along its length from the curl shape when it was shipped. It was also somewhat tedious to install the plastic luff sliding it up the headstay. The instructions say it's a two-plus person job to install and I agree. The drum is very simple and easy to install/use. I lost the bearing washer overboard during installation - its a slippery little thing. Even with all the above - I did not break a sweat installing that thing. The operation is a dream for single handed sailing. This set-up is on a Cal 25.

Hello Again, I wanted to thank everyone for their input regarding the CDI roller furler. It looks like the only negative that I've seen, and that includes what I've seen on other sites, pertains to adjusting the luff tension. Well, thanks again!

I got an Alado furler for my 2-27. Very reasonable price. I installed it myself, took about 2 hrs. It's been working perfectly all year. Love it. >
