Scott, When you refer to the ‘Cal 35’, I assume you are referring to 80’s Mk I and II models (Lapworth, IORish) because they look somewhat like the 33 (Hunt). In my opinion, the 33 is a much better performing boat with a more modern design. It also is available in a 4.67’ draft model which I believe is what you need for the Chesapeake and other shallow bays on the east coast. So that would be my choice if coastal cruising is a priority. If offshore cruising is a priority, I’d lean towards a deep draft boat unless the Bahamas’ are a priority. For the cost of a 33 (which are a bit more expensive than the 35), you might be getting into Cal 39 territory and I really like them for offshore work. So I’d recommend the jump to the 39 for offshore work. If for some reason the 35 is still on your list, get the Mk II. Thanks! This is some good advice. I've really just started lookin, and have been using the yachtworld website as my "one stop shop" for looking at different models. I've yet to sail aboard any of these boats, so performance and handling would be my judge. I had seen a 33 for sale, listed as a "Hunt" design, and the similar vintage 35 looked incredibly similar, so I assumed the 35 was a Hunt design as well. The 39 is an interesting boat as well, but the few I've seen have been deep draft boats. unless you are on the tall side, in which case go for the Cruising Cal 35 with 6'6" headroom Reggie To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.comFrom: im… [at] yahoo.comDate: Fri, 12 Oct 2007 08:36:11 -0700Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Cal 33 & 35 Scott, When you refer to the ‘Cal 35’, I assume you are referring to 80’s Mk I and II models (Lapworth, IORish) because they look somewhat like the 33 (Hunt).
