The hinge is holding a piece of Plexiglases that comes down in front of the panel to keep it dry check it out www.freedomfabrications.com JR 1969 Cal 2-30 #80 From: r good <my… [at] hotmail.com> To: ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 10:39:31 AM Subject: RE: Replacement instrument panel was Re: [Cal_Boats] FW: Cal 33 & 35 what is the purpose of he hinge? I had the same problem on my Cal 35 and found a premade port that was a perfect fit. I then cut a piece of starboard (white plastic wood) to fit it and mounted the engine controls on that. It looks great. I even had room to put the fuel guage. The only negative is that the cover flips up rather than side to side so I have to ask guests to move their feet when I am starting the engine. I've just gotten back from vacation but I can look up the manufacturer of the port tomorrow if you would like. - David From: Preferred Customer <de… [at] yahoo.com> To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, October 15, 2007 11:54:55 AM Subject: Replacement instrument panel was Re: [Cal_Boats] FW: Cal 33 & 35 I had a similar problem with my Cal 3-30. I took the old plastic panel to a local car customizer who built a stainless steel replacement panel using the old plastic panel as a pattern. Looks and works great. I oown a 1985 Cal 35 MK II. In answer to questions it is a Lapworth design. In communicating with others in another Cal group no longer functioning I was told that my hull number indicated that my Cal 35 was the last 35 produced by Cal Boats. I do know it was the last one produced in Florida before Cal moved everything back to Fall River, Mass. I did not think they ever produced the 35 again before going out of business, but I saw a 1988 Cal 35 advertised in the Boat US magazine. Does anyone know where or if I can find a replacement engine panel insert, not the engine panel itself, but the white plastic insert that is atached to the cockpit fiberglass and the engine panel fits into the insert? --- In Cal_Boats@yahoogrou ps.com, r good <my1972ih@.. .> wrote: > > > unless you are on the tall side, in which case go for the Cruising Cal 35 with 6'6" headroom > Reggie > > > To: Cal_Boats@.. .: imissedmyface@ ...: Fri, 12 Oct 2007 08:36:11 - 0700Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Cal 33 & 35 > > > > > > > Scott, > > When you refer to the `Cal 35', I assume you are referring to 80's Mk I and II models (Lapworth, IORish) because they look somewhat like the 33 (Hunt). > > In my opinion, the 33 is a much better performing boat with a more modern design. It also is available in a 4.67' draft model which I believe is what you need for the Chesapeake and other shallow bays on the east coast. For the cost of a 33 (which are a bit more expensive than the 35), you might be getting into Cal 39 territory and I really like them for offshore work. So I'd recommend the jump to the 39 for offshore work. > > If for some reason the 35 is still on your list, get the Mk II. > > Dave > 80 Cal 35 MkI, Runnin Late > Coyote Pt, SF Bay > > > ----- Original Message ----From: Scott Sauvageot <rxnumbercruncher@ ...>To: cal_boats@.. .: Thursday, October 11, 2007 12:54:37 PMSubject: [Cal_Boats] Cal 33 & 35 > > Windows Live Hotmail and Microsoft Office Outlook - together at last.
