Charlie, the 9.2 was the only Ron Holland designed CAL. She was actually a "re-badged" Jeanneau boat, at the time Bangor Punta was in some form of partnership with Jeanneau, which also produced the O'DAY 39 (Jeanneau SUN FIZZ) later modified to become the O'DAY 40, and the Ranger FUN (23') . The C. Raymond Hunt Associates designed CALs (actual designer was John Deknatel, Principle Designer for Hunt Associates) were the CAL 22, CAL 24 (1983-85), CAL 28 (1985-89), CAL 33 (1985-89, 91), CAL 39 (1987-89), CAL 44, and CAL 50 (not sure if any CAL 50's were built, but the design did exist). These boats should not be confused with the earlier Lapworth boats of the same length designations, CAL 24, CAL 2-24, CAL T/4 (24'), CAL 28 ("flat top"), CAL 33, and CAL 39, 39 (MK II), 3-39 also know as 39 MK III. Actually the Cal 9.2 is 9.13765 meters long.. or 29' 11.75" We raced MORA (Midget Ocean Racing Association) when all boats had to be less than 30' The Cal 9.2 was at the rule maximum... with the transom bobbed just at the end to make the measurement. As drawn with the extended lip (> 30'... by a wee bit) As fabricated with the bobbed tail ~ 1-2" for MORA < 30' From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Rodney G Johnson Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2007 5:25 PM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Re: Cal 9.2 Hi, Fiver. Picky, picky, picky. I'm thinking that on a cold day the last two digits of your precision go away. I'm sure she puckers a little. My apologies to Mr. Holland. Ahh, which leads me to a new discussion. One can be precise without being accurate. Like LORAN. Stay tuned. By the way, I always wondered why the backstay on a CAL 2-30 goes to the back of the keel. It attaches in the square on dEmO's photo. Where the scutcheon or plimble or whatever the hell it is is at the base of the stern.
