Nice show. But nothing is a substitute for seeing the show in person. It's like watching a video of a fireworks display, pretty but you have to see one of these shows live to get the chills up your spine. If you ever get a chance to see these guys, go for it!

Annapolis at Naval Academy graduation. Wow. They go over my house at
about 500 feet and down the Severn River at less than that in diamond
formation and during inverted over-under. Then there's the
afterburners. Barrrrrooooommmmmmm....
Cheers

RE: [Cal_Boats] nice Fleet Week video SF Bay(low altitude streak)

Wow. First time at the link I just so the picture and no action, so I went to the link that features excerpts from the whole show. This time I see the low altitude streak. Is that a speed of sound shock wave hitting the water? Good thing no sailboats in the way, he looks like he's no higher than, what, twenty five feet off the deck?
When I was in the Navy in 1970, stationed at Brunswick GA we did a cross country in a T-39, a modified twin engine exectutive jet we used for radar intercept training. We streaked the 405 Freeway Sepulveda Pass during rush hour. Good thing we didn't spatter a helicopter, altho we nearly did a head on with a seagull as we speed up the coast at low altitude off Big Sur. Lucky the bird saw us and in a split second did a quick inverted dive, barely missing the windscreen. I was standing in the cockpit between the pilots at the time. That bird saved my life. And they say "bird
brain!!"??

Jerry, the whole show is subsonic. Otherwise, there would be no windows
left in town. A low pass supersonic could pop your eardrums. It is an
intimidation move in some areas of the world.
What you see on the water is the air wash downward off the wings. When
the afterburners kick in, you do also get quite a noise spike. Good
thing those guys like me (I hope).
Cheers

They come to Traverse City every other year in July for the Cherry
Festival. I always know when because they practice for a few hours
right over my office, on Grand Traverse Bay. One year I was spending a
sunny day working on my boat on her mooring and they were right over my
head, going vertical. It looks easy until you stop and think about the
speeds and forces involved....
