Cal 2-30 listed on ebay

Bernie Wideman2007-10-25 01:26 UTC
There's a Cal 2-30 that was listed on eBay yesterday. It sounds, from the seller's description, like a great boat: newer diesel, newer sails, newer prop, newer cushions, etc. The buyer says he wants $5,200 for it, and he'll pay to ship it. He also says: don't bid on he boat without first contacting him off the ebay list. This has to be some kind of a scam, right? I asked him (not thru ebay) for more pics. Here's the response I received. You can see the listing on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-CAL-2-30-Sailboat-Racer-Cruiser-SUPER-NICE-Boat_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ80652QQihZ018QQitemZ280166025554QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I'm not in the market for another boat. (I currently have an S2 9.2A.) But I bring this to the list because it sounds like a deal that's too good to be true, which often means that it's too good to be true. Bernie Wideman former owner Cal25 #862 "Skylark" Hello, Thank you for contacting me about my boat - 1969 CAL 2-30 Sailboat Racer Cruiser SUPER NICE!! Boat, in pristine condition. The price is $5.200 About the boat: it is in immaculate condition and has no scratch on and hasn't been involved in any accident. The engine runs very well. The boat was always garaged and rarely used. The boat is in showroom condition. The title is clear, it is not a salvage one. I have legal document by which I can transfer the title to your name. The boat is located in Atlanta and I will ship it from here. I will support all the shipping fees. The boat is in perfect running condition. If you purchase this boat in this auction and feel it was misrepresented in any way I will not enforce any of the eBay "rules" on having to purchase it. Please do not mistake this comment as a weakness, I simply stated this because I know you will not have any issues when you see the boat in person. Please send me any questions you may have. The delivery will take within 5 to 7 working days (with insurance and 30 days return policy). The service has frequent shared container services. It will be insured at the delivery service. If something happens on the road, you will receive the insurance from the delivery service. As soon as the boat arrives, you will test and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in max. 30 days since the arrival date. In this case I will pay the return shipping and insurance fees. ALSO ABOUT PAYMENT AND SHIPPING I WILL USE ONLY EBAY SO WE CAN BOTH BE PROTECTED! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO E-MAIL ME YOUR EBAY USER ID AND COMPLETE NAME AND ADDRESS FOR SHIPPING AND AFTER THAT EBAY WILL CONTACT YOU WITH MORE INFO REGARDING SHIPPING AND PAYMENT! If you agree with my above terms, I'm sure that we can close the deal as soon as possible. I have reserved the boat for you until I will have your final answer. Yikes!!! This boat looks nearly identical to one that lived (and probably still does) in the northwest. Was named Teaser and was sold a couple of years ago to someone in Vancouver BC. Further the background in the picture looks like the NW. The UW Husky flag on the boat in the background was likely not down in Georgia. In fact, the picture looks a whole lot like the Tacoma YC outstation dock at Eagle Harbor, but I cannot say that for sure. I hate to see some unsuspecting person get scammed here.
