Bernie,
For 5200 bucks, how can he pay shipping both ways if you don't like it? To
me this has SCAM written all over it...
I get so much ebay related scam and phishing e-mail that now all e-bay
related emails go into the Spam folder.
My advice is RUN, don't walk, away from this one...

Yes, the ad is totally different...different seller, as well. It appears the
guy Bernie talked to hijacked a legitimate ad and made a few changes in it.
Did you notice in the earlier one that you were not to pay through e-bay?
It looks to me like the real seller saw what had happened and stopped the
auction...

More than that... when I looked at it, there were 2 interior pix only,
plus the description was an IMAGE, not actual text -- most likely to
keep it under ebay's radar. That, w/ the couple instances of
Asia-English set off my alarms. Not mispellings, we all do that, I mean
the way the sentences were constructed sounded foreign... just too
hinky. :-0

I have our CAL 21 listed now on the GOOD OLD BOATS website classified ad
page, due to various problems that sellers have encountered, GOB sent me
the following warning copied below.
"Weve also recently encountered a phone call from a Nigerian wanting to
purchase a boat. You will distinctly know if this is happening to you
because you will receive a relay phone call. A relay phone call is
what deaf people use. The conversation is typed by the caller and spoken
to you by a mediator. For the Nigerians, this will disguise their
accent and lack of English skills. You are not charged for this phone
call. Its the same as receiving any other phone call, so simply tell
them not to call you again and hang up the phone. We have only had one
person inform us of this happening out of the hundreds of ads we post on
the web each year. We just wanted to be sure you were warned and will
know what to do in a situation such as this."
This may somewhat explain the bizarre eBay listing for that CAL 2-30?

But I bring this to the list because it sounds like a deal that's too
good to be true, which often means that it's too good to be true.
This whole thing sounds like somebody took an ad for a car and
substituted the word "boat." "Always garaged"???? Delivery in 5-7
days???? Hold onto your wallet....
Chris Campbell
About the boat: it is in immaculate condition and has no scratch on and
hasn't been involved in any accident. The engine runs very well. The
boat was always garaged and rarely used. The boat is in showroom
condition. The title is clear, it is not a salvage one. I have legal
document
by which I can transfer the title to your name.
The boat is in perfect running condition. If you purchase this boat in
this
auction and feel it was misrepresented in any way I will not enforce any
of the eBay "rules" on having to purchase it. Please do not mistake this
comment as a weakness, I simply stated this because I know you will not
have any issues when you see the boat in person. Please send me any
questions you may have.
The delivery will take within 5 to 7 working days (with insurance and
30 days return policy). The service has frequent shared container
services. It will be insured at the delivery service. If something
happens
on the road, you will receive the insurance from the delivery service.

I have had many successful transactions on eBay - even for expensive items like digital cameras, laptos etc. - but please, please everybody be extremely weary about the "contact me to be approved before bidding"-routine - it usually means they want to get your contact information to contact you outside of eBay - and that in 99.5% of case means they are going to propose something to scam you out of your money ...

I saw an ad once for a Honda Goldwing was too good to be true. Guy would
ship it free from NY to AZ, and back if I was not satisfied. I notified
Ebay of the scam. Hope someone has on this one. I haven't seen it. Been
too busy with work.

Bruce, I did contact eBay with my concerns over this listing. Haven't
heard anything back from them. Good eyes, re the person noticing the
Pacific NW setting and the UW Husky flag in the listing's pics. I had
asked the "seller" to
send me some other pics of the boat and any recent survey but
received nothing of the sort. As I said, I'm not in the market, but
now that I'm retired I do spend some time looking at the sailboat
classifieds on eBay. For Rod: I did see your response in your first
post. For Roger: I saw both your responses. Bernie
