Re: [Cal_Boats]Kelly's Cal 20's, used sails was..Parting Out Boat (Lord Nougat)
Jib Kelly rocks. He makes amazing goosenecks for the Cal 20 too, to replace the swivelly 'boom furling' things they originally came with. Really slick stuff. I'm sure there's alot more than that too - but yeah, I lucked out there - getting a Cal20 and living right accross the street from the ultimate Cal 20 shop [aside from Seals Spars]. It was clearly meant to be.

Lord Nougat,
It might be worth mentioning that Jib Kelly's in San Pedro acquires and rebuilds Cal 20s, that may be why you lucked out getting good used sails from them. I got a rather low price but sized right genoa from them for just $75, I put $150 into it making it usable, sewing in leech lines (can I put in a plug for OM Sails in Venice, CA, my sailrepair loft?), but I wish I'd just put my dough in a new sail, maybe even a Hong Kong sail, perish the thought of sending money to China, especially since every month I seem to be spending a fortune on gasoline, much of it which comes from the Middle East and therefore goes into financing Madrases which support terrorist training camps. Uggh. Woops is that politics?
Well, support your local sail loft if you can. I wish I could but a new Genoa from the only local loft that actually makes his own sails would double the
price, other local lofts usually have sails made/or sewn/ off shore anyways. I did luck out in finding that a Santana 20's Genoa will fit my boat as a number 2, picked up a tired one, a 1994 mylar sail by a famous name American loft and I've been nursing it for the last two years...with sail tape patches on the wear spots. Nice thing about a mylar sail is that they won't bag out and lose their shape as much like a Dacron will over the years. And for only $100, from a local racer who'se won the class National Championship at least once.

I keep wanting to mention Minney's too - they always have heaps and heaps of, well, everything [except for Cal 20 sails, of course]. There's Kelly Marine in San Pedro too, but they're somewhat smaller, though they have winches all the time [although I recall only ever seeing one pair of self tailing], and I got my new sails from them, and they're, for lack of a more awesome word, awesome!
