George, Marsh's boat sat in the water a long time before he owned it. Neglect. It takes many many months for the boat to get to this point. With ablative paints a wipe-down every few moths is OK. With hard racing paints we need to scrub frequently when the water is warm in the summer. Marsh, if you go the chemical route, the bottom will need a very thorough cleaning and then sanding after the treatment to get it paintable shape. Otherwise, paint will not adhere.
