Hi Fiver, Bob is sending us the tach so we can test it (we have signal generators for that purpose) to determine if it or the sender is the likely problem...it is not a mechanical tach. I think you are right about any inductive pickup working with it, as long as the threads on the pickup are the same so it'll screw into the engine block or bell housing. Also, I will check on Monday at the office for the actual cost of a VDO (which it likely is) inductive pickup. VDO is one of the lines we carry for our custom panels, and I know the pickups are in the price list from them. $450.00 seems like a lot, but we don't generally provide pickups as they are already on the customer's engines, so I don't know the general cost of that part. I have done no diagnostics yet, although the cable looks sanitary from my first cursory look. I will inspect the leads on the tach and wires all the way back to the block and make sure all the connectors are good and if so then send the unit to Mark to see if the display unit's the problem.
