Hurth gears and other boat toys
Tom Vandiver2007-12-20 04:53 UTC
Thanks to all of you for the amusing discussions
lately. Over a month later, I am still in the hospital
from infection and antibiotic reaction, perfect new
hip, just needed some kidney dialysis and my inner ear
is all screwed up, makes me feel like I am sea sick
when I have never been sea sick all of my life. Little
chance of improvement - YUKH!
I have enjoyed Fiver's analysis of the Hurth toy and
agree totally. They are rated new, pleasure craft duty
at 1,000 hours by the builder. YEAH! If you only use
the boat on Blue Moons and sail. Most folks don't get
300 hours of use before they are ready for a rebuild.
I stopped rebuilding Hurths several years ago, they
are a POS to start with, parts are ridiculous and
calibration techniques are worse than a "Green Grief".
I will not say much more except I have a pallet of
Hurth Toys in my shop, if any of you want used
parts, pay shipping only and get a "Shadow Warrenty",
i.e. move the shadow the warrenty is void.
ENUFF said, as a few years back I related the truth
about "Green Grief's", it was published nationally and
I got threatening letters. So, if you want to hear
this old fool rant, call me on the phone or come on
down to Bayou Chico, set on the porch, watch the
mullet jump and drink some SAM ADAMS, Dark and
Stormies, single malt scotch, look at my Cal Boats and
we will share.
Glad to be alive,
Tom Vandiver

Tom,
Oh me gawrsh! Get well soon good sail-buddy!
Pray to the Inner-Ear-God and maybe he-she will take pitty on you and patch you up near as new. BTW if ditty is spelled with two t's why isn't pity? It must be pronounced pie-tee? Maybe a big slice of pumpkin pie with ice cream al-a-mode will fix you right up.
Now you get to practise sailing the Carribean while sea-sick the whole time. What a challange! Maybe the inner ear will re-calibrate itself out of necessity?
And I thought me oldest bro had hard luck when his first hip operation didn't work and it had to be redone. The second op was good and he's back to 90%. Not bad. He's in the Tampa area, a former TWA captain, and working on a RV-8 kit.
Get Well Soon!
Jerry
