Usually, the notice to appear for jury sets forth a means by which you can attempt to excuse yourself. Usually, as stated by Marsh, the action merely delays your need to appear. Federal court hauls people in from all over the federal districts, which tend to be large and beyond city limits. Apart from that, we are all supposed to go and do our duty. I like to remind jurors our US Constitution is only as good as the jurors make it. Jury service is right up there with military service. It's where the US Constitution meets the road. I would love to serve on a jury. The last time I was called, the judge, prosecutor, and defense all knew me. I was booted off. Sometimes, jury trials are like reading a good book. Jury service is right up there with military service. It's where > the US Constitution meets the road. Absolutely. It's one of those things that the founders of the country thought was so important that they put it in the Constitution. This is your final protection against government misbehavior or unfairness. Now we take all that for granted, and just assume that somebody else will take care of our rights (and our obligations). The court system is of no interest to most people until they have a dispute that's worth fighting over. We have institutionalized our fights, making them less a matter of who has more force behind them and more a matter of who is right. The way we keep the system honest is via the input of juries. For many people, jury service is the only time they will ever be involved in the governance of their own community. Chris Campbell

That will usually do it. Please just do not say that in front of the entire panel. The judge will usually, if they know what they are doing, allow you to make private statements to the attorneys out of the presence of the panel. Otherwise, you risk contamination of the entire panel. The defense attorney will probably move to strike the whole group, which will be denied. Trial then proceeds with everyone having heard your comment. Scary for the defendant, particularly if he/she is a loved one. ---------------------- Sailing content: I have not been sailing in six months! --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, Scott Sauvageot <rxnumbercruncher@...> wrote: > > > Just tell the interviewing attorney that if they were charged with a crime, they MUST be guilty, since cops don't make mistakes. ;-) > > It worked well for my dad. Presentations from the Coalition to Save the Marina, Audubon Society, WeAREMDR, and LAMariner helped showcase the issues in our community. After initial outbursts by the public, Commissioners settled the meeting and advised alternative methods of support and displeasure. One of the early highlights was Commissioner Bill Burke's blasting Los Angeles County Regional Planning's Ron Hoffman for declining the recommendation for public review of the LCP before the Coastal Commission meeting.
