Steam punks
mtkennedy12008-01-14 23:42
I know some of the group is also interested in motorhomes. I thought I would post a link to
an amazing site called "Steam Punks." These guys like to build things but are most concerned
about making them look like they are Victorian Age holdovers. This one is a conversion of an
old school bus bought on eBay. I enjoy it and thought somebody else would too. I know Fin
has an older motorhome but nothing like this.

I'd add two things to this motor home, first,if it's on a website called Steam Punks, I'd put in a double or triple expansion steam engine and boiler; oh well, it could turn a generator, have banks of batteries and a motor off some old IRT New York Subway car to propel it, and of course, several banks of steel drums like they do in Cuba, and a drive shaft mounted propeller so she could go offshore. A suit of gaff rigged sails would be real nice, too! I wonder what the Coasties would make of her during a boarding type safety inspection?

Thanks, Mike. I got pretty nostalgic over this page. My Dad built an RV
out of an old bread truck. My buddies and I traveled all over the Midwest
in converted school busses: Rock and Roll road bands. Not usually as
elegantly finished, of course. If you could build a mechanism to flip and
hoist a Cal 20 onto the roof, then we'd have something I'd have to own.

If you look around the site, you'll find a car he's rebuilding. It's a VW chassis with one of
those Mercedes roadster kits on it. He wants to put a steam engine in it.

Mike he could take a tired old Cal 27 or 28 that needs sails, mast and rigging, and put one of these jobbers in it:
http://www.tinypower.com/
They got a nice two cylinder that can power a boat up to 30' Some assembly required.

If you cut back the roof of the bus halfway, then cut a notch in the floor between the frame rails the keel of the cal 20 could hang behind the axel .Cross country cal camping. Add hydraulic arms from an old loader and have self launching capability. Back right down the boat ramp and splash... no yard fees.hahahadrew ratchelous
