I did the same routine: drilled a series of holes in the box and sprayed the expanding foam around. In spite of warnings and considerable caution, I still got some inward expansion of the box liner. It's tricky beacause you want to avoid voids but don't want to swell things! My fuel lines under the box are now also embedded in this foam. I just changed them, so at least I don't need to wrestle with that.

The previous owner of my Cal 39 did this. The problem I have is
delamination of the veneer on the lower portion of my galley below the
fridge. Since condensation has nowhere else to form due to foam
extending to the wood. If anyone else is considering this I'd advise
taking things apart and inststalling insulation of sorts. I also
upsized and replaced my fuel lines and it made it a bitch to install
them. The return now runs along side the refrigerator in the engine
compartment and along the hull to the tank.
Has anyone found a good way to better seal the lids to the refrigerator?
