Re: [Cal_Boats] Oz Moses/Rudder (Charlie)
On my Cal35 I drill a hole up from he bottom one inch behind the leading edge of the rudder. It seems to work well. I use an extra long 3/8 bit about a 18 inches. I have also routed out a 1/8 inch deep and wide grove where the post meets the rudder and filled it with 5200. It seems to have worked. Previously I had injected west epoxy in that area but it did not hold up over time. Finally I have painted the rudder white so It stays cool when the boat is hauled and any signs of problems are immediatly noticible.

Charlie,
I am pulling my boat in the morning and I have blisters on the rudder.
Where do I drill the hole to drain the water out of it and what sealant do I use around the rudder post to prevent the water from entering.
I know the questions create a lengthy answer. I believe I read, this is a anual procedure for your former pride.
Your help is always appreciated.
Thanks
Randy

As I recall, Oz was a blues player from the Mississippi Delta in the

Seriously, I believe that CAL osmosis problems were not particular to
any model, but rather to the conditions (and the condition of the
workers) when the boats were laid up. Things like temp, humidity, and
set-up time played a role. I've seen many CAL 25 bottoms (now there's a
visual for you!), some with continuing bubble problems, and some with
none, and everything in between.
Cheers
