I always thought that "list etiquette" referred to offering a hand to a
person to help them get high side in the cockpit when the boat heels
over hard. But then, maybe that's just me.

I thought that was "heel" etiquette, as in if you don't your a heel.
List etiquette is not elbowing others to get of the listing and sinking
boat first.
