Don't let my story of 125 blisters intimidate you! I would not hesitate to buy this same boat again, blisters included...these are great boats!
By the way, I used "reply to group" and see no copied previous post. Does this show up only on individual posts and not on the digest version, or is it on
"reply via web post"?

There have been a couple of extreme examples described where the hull
is Swiss cheese. I once saw a non-Cal sitting in a boat yard for a
year with a thousand or more blisters about 3 inches in diameter
drying out. I don't know how that turned out.
A few blisters are not unexpected. If they start to appear in greater
numbers or size, it is time to strip to the glass and put a new
barrier coat.

Your post seems to be in the thread Peter, I haven't found this style
of thread format very user friendly compared to one that I'm used to
but it seems to do the job.
I went and looked at a Cal 39 for sale today. No sign of blisters (on
the hardstand), hull and keel looks good, rudder delaminated and spongy
in areas but I can deal with that, cockpit/dodger/bimini all good,
rigging/mast/boom look good, deck good, timber toe rail needs
work/replacement can live with that, fore and aft private cabins I
like the layout- getting excited now. Deck to hull joint looks
terrible, rotten plywood lining in numerous places, wet in places,
stanchion mounts are over the lap joint between hull and deck and have
been packed out with various things (plywood, rusty washers, etc)
unevenly and IMHO shoddy as hell. Big disappointment with the quality,
what I could see of the chainplate bulkheads looked strong enough but
on the whole I didn't think I could deal with what I can only guess are
multiple leaks through the deck fittings/deck hull joint. Electrical
Wiring???
Is this build quality common in the Cals or is it possibly an owner
fitout or repair at some stage?
Still looking.

JP -
I just bought a CAL 39 over the Christmas break (Merry Christmas to me) so if I can be of any assistance let me know.? I don't know if you were looking back then, but I bought the 1980 Lapworth design that was in Camden, ME.
