John, I had a look at this web site and it seemed pretty cool. Have you done this yet? What happens if you cannot start on time? I'm not real sure on all of the details here, but I may give it go. Steve in Port Orchard.

Hey Cal group, need a winter distraction while the sailing season is
slow. check out Sailonline.org. virtual sailing game where you
control the boat! test your navigation skills, choosing the best route
and using the auto pilot to keep the boat sailing while you are away
from the computer.
next race starts 15:00 utc 2/2
it's free! no adverts and so far just a fun distraction from the daily
grind.

Nice one Reg. And to think I used to settle for Guiness, popcorn, and Cap'n Ron in the dvd player. The problem up here is that if ya gotta work you end up going to work in the dark and coming home after dark, at least in the winter months. We make up for it in the summer with 16 or 17 hours of daylight and great sailing weather. Soon brother, soon.

Well, it isn't a Cal, but I bought a real pretty boat
this winter in the throws of withdrawal.
Too bad I can't take delivery till next December.
Of course, it will arrive just in the middle of that winter's
agony. Which means I will have to go frostbiting.
It's a boat I've been in love with for 5 years, the
Crawford Melonseed Skiff.

Steve,
The game lets you "practice" until one hour before the start. All boat are
"towed back" and you can set your direction and not move. The program
releases your boat at the start. During the race you can preset timed
maneuvers so you can get to do some real work. (G)
Right now they are having a timed race. As you finish you are posted with
your elapsed time. So far I am 14th!
See ya
