We strongly suggest Napa filters, as they are made by Wix, in the USA, and are of high quality. Do not use Fram filters on any engine you care about.

What is the objection--poor design, poor manufacturing, high failure
rates? Most of us don't have ways of judging filters. When I buy one
for the truck's oil change I tend to grab whatever the store carries for
my engine. I've screwed a few Fram filters on in my time. It would be
nice to know why to avoid those.

Fram filters are crap. Any parts for your expensive engine that can be bought at Wal Mart should be avoided.
Investing in quality filters will prolong the life of your engine.

As a matter of principle, I do not cross the threshold of Wal-Mart.
(They are notorious for various things, including driving down quality
to meet price levels instead of setting quality and setting the price to
get it). But all sorts of other places carry Fram. I always assumed
that the filters were roughly equivalent in quality. This is one of
those interesting subjects on which the consumer can't make a truly
informed decision because there's not a lot of readily available
information. It is helpful to hear from people with direct experience
like you.
