My friendly neighbourhood diesel mechanic always said to avoid Fram filters because they were too flow restrictive when clean, never mind how they get when they're dirty. That's just hearsay on my part though, I have no empirical evidence to back it up with. Any parts for your expensive engine that can be bought at Wal Mart should be avoided. As a matter of principle, I do not cross the threshold of Wal-Mart.(They are notorious for various things, including driving down qualityto meet price levels instead of setting quality and setting the priceto get it). But all sorts of other places carry Fram. I alwaysassumed that the filters were roughly equivalent in quality. Gosh! i think wall-mart also sells Castrol, Valvoline and Pennziol (to name a few). with a certain male logic, should i not put any of those things in my engine either? now for Global Social Economic reasons, i shall never darken the door of any wall mart store. even at my substantially diminished economic studious, i will pay the 10, 20 or even 30 percent premium for the privilege of keeping my dollar out of that slave-market. but that has nothing to say about the quality of what they sell in their stores. however it says everything about their business model. this being said; i have read nothing definitive, nor of an "empirical nature" (where it concerns the subject of oil filters) in the discussion thus far. now i too, have my own *opinion*. but i will not bother you folks with that as there as been enough of such already. no, not when it was so easy to avail myself of the one place where people make it their business to know which filter is best for them. the place where people go-fast for a living. but not the front- door where they get paid to advertise. no, the back-door where the grunts work to keep the power-plants running. so much for me talking. please find below, a very good URL that will lead the inquisitive into a few graphic pages of telling information on oil filters. and much else...... 5er.... http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html
