Re: [Cal_Boats] new owner(Anne)
Anne,
Welcome to the greatest list ever. Also because you have a 29. Your observation about the transition from crew to captain is right on. You are now in charge and responsible for the welfare of your crew and boat. That's a big thing. If you cruise or race it has to be your primary objective.
Regards,
David Dobbs, Cal29 411

Subject: [Cal_Boats] new owner
I've just purchased my first boat - a Cal 29'. She's in pretty good
shape, considering she's 32 years old. I'm trying to get repairs taken
care of that I don't feel adequate to do, or do have time to do before I
take her out. That includes replacing the wiring and plumbing (house
grade, not boat grade), replacing the steering pedestal back plate, and
fixing a small soft spot in the deck.
I've raced on other's boats for 5 years now, so I'm not a total
'greenhorn'. But I am finding it quite a different experience being in
charge!
I'm taking it slow though. While she's in for repairs, I've taken the
USCGA boat safety course, and I've signed up for a Keelboarding course.
I also have many more experience friends willing to share their weekend
with me for some 'lessons'.
