Tampa Bay update.
r good2008-02-25 02:08 UTC
We spent last night at anchor in lower Tampa Bay just outside St Petersburg. We slept in then headed into St Petersburg municipal marina area to take on fuel and water and inspect problems and do repairs.
First a window report. no leaks on the three rebedded ports!
Engine report. Barbara had noticed a broken bolt when checking the engine oil level. It was from the main alternator mounting bracket. Also, we lost oil pressure readings on the gauge. Turns out the oil pressure gauge was grounded on that bolt. When the bolt was replaced, and the ground wire re-attached, pressure gauge functions fine.
When removing the alternator, discovered the tensioning bracket was also broken.
Parts to repair the problems were only about $15. taxi rides for tools and parts were $53. tools, including drill bits, cordless drill, easy-out broken bolt extractors, center punch, hammer, wrenches, etc. were over $100.
I could notfind an exact replacement for the tensioning bracket. So, I bought a chrome racing bracket and modified it. cut some off, drill some holes. Soon I'll add a chrome oil filler cap and a turned down dipstick and have a racing engine!
We've decided to head for Tarpon Springs tomorrow. Weather starts deteriorating tomorrow night and into Tuesday and perhaps Wednesday, so we may be there a day or two. Then, we'll go straight shot to either Pensacola or Apalachicola, weather permitting.
so much for now from the crazy people, R & B

Sure enjoying hearing your reports, though I feel for you with the new
boat hassles. You will get it all worked out, and you'll know her
inside out before you're through so that's the good news. Keep up the
reports, you guys. We love you both.

Hi,
You will never regret going into Tarpon Springs, if
you like Greek food. I can smell the garlic now!. The
municipal marina is in the middle of town, within
walking distance of several excellent Greek
restuarants and bakeries. The marina is small, so give
them a phone call.
I say you have made a smart move. If the WX is good,
which it usually is after a front passes, you can sail
the rhumb line to Pensacola Pass, be sure to leave the
Cape San Blas Air Force firing range well to
starboard. If the WX deteriorates, you can head into
Apalachacola, up the ICW to Gulf County Canal, then
south to Port St. Joe, all 65'+ bridges. Bridges
between the Canal and Panama City are only 50' as are
those between Panama City and Pensacola. If the wind
is northerly, that is perfect, stay just off the beach
and beam reach from Panama City R-2 to Pensacola
R-2,about 90NM.
We will have the Dark & Stormys ready.

any favorite reataurants? We made it to Tarpon Springs and will stay at least a day.
I may have toasted the transmission today. We were pushing a little harder to get to Tarpon Springs and I'm afraid it overheated and started slipping. I'm going to change out fluid in a little bit and we'll see how it goes.

are you able to get Satori all the way in to the Tarpon Springs City Marina?
Do I recall you saying you have a transmission available?

****** We have been there many times, The river has a
few shallow spots,so watch the markers.
We prefer the smaller restuarants.

***Yes, but what model is yours. There should be a
small brass plate by the shift arm that wil say 71-C ,
72-2 or 73-C, could be 10-17 or 10-18. Also will
denote reduction, i.e., 1-1, 1,5-1 etc.
Slipping usually is low oil level. Drain and refill
with ATF or engine oil, only. Usually overheating
results in clutch plates "welding" together and no
forward or reverse, or sometimes it will freeze up in
gear and you cannot find nuetral.
