Scott,
Welcome to the Cal List! We love 29 owners, and there are a bunch of us
here.
If you have a heat exchanger on your boat, I would say in all likelihood
your engine has been replaced at some point unless it's one of the very last
ones made.
The very vast majority of Cal 29s have the atomic four or later on the
Faryman diesel, both raw water cooled.
So to help you, we would need to know which brand and model of motor. Then
we can refer you to our resident diesel guru, Joe Demers...
Welcome again. Where are you berthed?

I am berthed in Napa Marina at the moment because I live in Napa and it is easier to work on it here. I plan to move it to the Berkeley Marina. The boat came with the name "Hatikvah". Thanks for the quick response.

"Beta 14" zinc [ was zincs ]
Joe DeMers2008-02-26 06:19 UTC
I am a Beta Marine dealer. The new model designation for your engine is the "Beta 14".
There is one zinc, located on the engine's port side, on the outboard side of the after heat exchanger end cap. The owner's manual will show the location.
It should be inspected at least once every two months, and replaced if more than 1/2 wasted away.
