Poll and Spring Fever
Husar, Charlie [USA]2008-03-05 11:46 UTC
Early every Spring, the List gets a little antsy. Many of us do not
sail the winter, and some who do, shouldn't. Things like THE POLL are
traditional diversions till boat time. My vote in the poll is well
known. On my rare forays into wine consumption, it is Merlot or Shiraz.
Two Buck Chuck's is plenty good enough (and really pretty good). Even
rarer on the hard stuff, my crews favorite summer post race quaff is gin
and diet tonic with lime - very refreshing. Then there are Alfred's
D&Ss at the GOBR party. Life is naught but choices.
Can explain acronyms if required.
Cheers
Charlie

Need an 'Other' - or maybe a 'suck it up' category.
Smuttynose IPA, Hooker IPA, Rogue Brutal Bitter.
Problem is that I turned on a few boatmates to these,
now I'm the brewmaster. Oh well, they handle the
steaks....

I have not heard of those brands, maybe they are regional or you brew them
yourself. Nevertheless, I cannot drink those watery beers. A beer should
have some serious viscosity, or at least a lot of flavor. In our region,
Full Sail Amber, Ballard Bitter or Widmer IPA. Best with a good sandwich
whilst on a long broad reaching leg in the sunshine and a nice breeze.
That¹s my winter fantasy anyway.

By watery, I meant Coors Light, etc. By the way, Smuttynose has about the
same name appeal as Moosedrool Brown from Big Sky Brewing.

Ah! We're going to touch on all the favorite sins?
Well, the wine must be dry and aged in oak. And, right now, I'm going
for the locals and turning others on to the pleasures of Virginia wines.
Beer - make it dark. Something with that 'molasses-y' flavor.
But I learned a long time ago that one must enjoy rum (huzzah to the
'Dark and Stormy'!) to be a sailor in these parts!

When on the hook(SC), with a day to blow, my favorite is Yucca Juice.
In a large glass pickle jar
add 4-6 halved and crushed lemons
Fill with ice
add 1 cup sugar
add liter bottle of tequila
Seal the lid, and wrap with a big thick towel.
Twist the ends, and secure with duct tape.
Shake continuously for 30 minutes, passing from crew member to crew
member(SC).
Tell sailing and Yucca stories, and create rules and penalties for
consuming.
After 30 minutes, unwrap unit, there should be @ 1/8" of frosty ice on
the jug exterior.
Pass the container from member to member for their turn to sip.
Use rules to make the drinker tell a joke, story, or perform a trick.
Repeat as necessary.
See God & enjoy a wasted day!

One serious Yucca Foul is talking when it is your turn to drink..
another is pouring the Yucca Juice into a glass, it must be consumed
from the Jug.
Your results may vary!

Reggie,
Moose Drool is good. Had it in Bozeman. Try Wolf Pack Brewing in West Yellowstone.

Don't think anyone has accused these of being 'watery' -
but I'm with you on beers.
Smuttynose - Portsmouth, NH
Hooker - Hartford, CT
Rogue - Newport, OR
Me - Long Island Sound

I have not heard of those brands, maybe they are regional or you brew them yourself. Nevertheless, I cannot drink those watery beers. A beer should have some serious viscosity, or at least a lot of flavor. In our region, Full Sail Amber, Ballard Bitter or Widmer IPA. Best with a good sandwich whilst on a long broad reaching leg in the sunshine and a nice breeze. Thats my winter fantasy anyway.

Need an 'Other' - or maybe a 'suck it up' category.
Smuttynose IPA, Hooker IPA, Rogue Brutal Bitter.
Problem is that I turned on a few boatmates to these,
now I'm the brewmaster. Oh well, they handle the
steaks....

Santa Cruz Island Trips...
Wilkie2008-03-06 05:04 UTC
Guys,
Weather looks really good for an Island trip this weekend. I think I saw a
post from Dan that he can't make it, nor can I. Not sure how many of our
local crew is going, but the big boat is for sure.
The following weekend (March 14-16) I will be going, also weather
permitting, but it might take a lot of weather to scare me off -- I'm really
ready for a trip.
Chuck & Patty can't go this weekend, but will consider March 14-16 as well.
Best policy would be to go both weekends.
Please Advise.
