May: be a good time for a Puget Sound Rendezvous???

Fred Haas2008-02-26 16:31 UTC
At last years "Winds of Cal-tember " event we had a dozen boats at Arabella's Landing in Gig Harbor. It was a great turnout for a first time event/. Many of the participants voiced an interest in doing a spring event. I organized, and will probably do so again this year, the Cal-tember rendezvous, but I'd like someone else to set up a one for the spring, assuming there is interest. My thought is that since Cal-tember was based in the South Sound, that an event held further north would attract some new faces. What say you, Puget Sound Cal boaters? Is there interest in an event in May or early June? Is there someone out there who is willing to set one up? I'd be willing to do some coaching if someone would do the legwork. If were going to do it, now's the time to start planning. 48 Degrees will need to be notified by March 10 if we want to be listed in the April issue. Shilshole? Edmonds? Winslow? Where will it be? Please share your thoughts with the list, and please, someone come forward and make it happen. You know it'll be a great time for all. Fred Haas 3-30 Nemesis Tacoma

Fred I like the idea of a Cal rendezvous, there are three or more of us in Everett that might like to go. Fred: Winslow sounds like a pretty central spot (between Everett and Olympia anyway). Never been there but I have also heard that it's a pretty neat little town as well. I would guess that Memorial Day weekend might be too busy? If so, maybe the Saturday after Memorial Day. Sounds good to me. Jollygood! will be on the hard May 16th to the 20th so by then I will be good to go with new bottom paint, a new drip-less PSS, new cutlass bearing, and a new GPS. See you there? PS....Anne....I have picked up a lot of GPS and transducer info from the group over the last month or so. I will forward those to you off-line. Fred, If no one has offered, I'll take on the planning for the Spring Cal Event... I sort of offered to do so last year anyway and it seems that no one else has. Richard, Congratulations!!! You are now the proud owner of whatever you wish to call your spring event. On behalf of all the lurkers and non-listees who will attend, I thank you. I suggest you decide where you want to have it, secure a date and reservations for 20 slips as soon as possible. I saw a note in Northwest Yachting yesterday that said announcements for next month need to be in by the 10th. I think 48 Degrees goes til the 15th. Having the announcement in both April and May's editions of these will really help attendance. Please call me at home, 253-627-5494, or cell, 253-651-3622, if I can help you with anything. I will try to dig out the list of attendees at Cal-tember and forward it to you. You can also reach me at work at the numbers below. Okay everyone, it sounds like Early June was a good time for most of the people who already responded. I have 3 weekends in mind right now, 6/6-8, 6/13-15, or 6/20-22. Please let me know what weekends seem best for all of you. As for a location, I also like the idea of Winslow and will be calling over there to set this up. --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, "Fred Haas" <fred.haas@...> wrote: > > Richard, > Congratulations!!! Puget Sound Rendezvous - June 2008

Richard2008-03-08 23:27
I talked with the Winslow marina folks and there's pretty much no way to guarantee that we'd get 10-20 slips in June. In fact he basically said that he never has that many open at any one time anyway. I'm currently working on Port Orchard instead. They appear to have plenty of guest space and an activity dock. The other option that remains somewhat central is Shilshole but that is a very large marina and not quite as quaint as Bainbridge or Bremerton. I'm also currently shooting for 6/6-8 or 6/13-15 as the dates for the event.

I am a new Cal 34 owner, having moved up froman Islander 30. The Islander group holds it's annual gathering at Port Ludlow. They have ample slips, were always very accomodating and it's a beautiful marina. Hopefully we can make this Cal Rendezvous this summer.
