4-107 and 4-108 oil filters.

I see some 4-107's and 4-108's had spin on oil filters. That must mean there was a spin-on base to be mounted on the engine in place of the cartridge type oil filter base? Are the bases interchangeable so that older cartridge type filter assemblies can be changed to the spin on variety? Reggie
