Stepped Mast CAL 30 or other CAL Boat
BJake2008-04-01 23:25
Any one have an idea how the mast step attaches to the deck of a CAL
30. I am purchasing a new mast. I am thinking it is either glassed in
or bolted to the deck. If it is bolted I assume it is covered by the
wood headliner. I also know spreader light and bow light wires run up
through the step. The wires disappear into glass and I can not find
any evidence of where is enters the mast.
Any help or idea would be great.

The step is bolted on my Cal 34. I cannot say for sure if the bolts go
through the deck or are just lagged into the deck. The bolts only
prevent lateral movement of the step as far as I am aware.

On a CAL 25 it is just 4 wood screws and a lot of goop to mount the
pedestal. I would assume other designs are similar. I put a hole in
the side of the mast near the base to bring out the wiring (and run it
through the deck externally), since I don't like to have the connections
hidden in hard to reach areas.
