Layers, my man, layers. We face this often in Frostbite races in Annapolis, often much colder. However, our races are shorter. Any decent quality foulies with full pants and top will work. Need room inside for extra clothes. Do you have waterproof gloves? Good footwear also important (with room for extra socks). Sailing in the snow can be a blast. Wet heavy stuff sticks to everything, tho. Don't stand under the boom when you tack. Have a ball. Or you can do what dEmO does. Wear shorts. Seriously, he does that. Charlie, I believe you thought my boat is in the water. Sadly, it is not. I am hopeful to be in about 4 weeks. The coat and bibs are for my dad. I already got him a set of foulies with the recommended layering system. He doesn't seem to like them much. Maybe because of the layers it becomes cumbersome. At 72, he is entitled to make his own decisions and I no longer attempt to persuade him. One snowy afternoon, he was thumbing through a sale flyer and found the Mustang gear. He really liked them because they offer hypothermia and flotation protection...hard to argue with that. Since they were "his" idea, maybe he'll wear them. Shorts and wrestling kneepads! Kneepads protect the knees with warmth, and provide abrasion protection. Never forget the Crane position pre race warm-up! My newest addition to keeping warm, and providing safety from fiberglass wear on my elbows, lifeline sawing on my back and crashing is my body armor. I realize it looks silly, but it keeps all the vital parts (back, shoulder, chest, elbows, forearms and kidneys very warm, regardless of being wet. After breaking two ribs in the 2006 PAcific CUp, in a big knock down, this latest "dEmO dEvIcE" takes sailing warmth and protection to a new level!
