That classified ad lacks details. Also, it lacks functionality. From: Rodney G Johnson <rj… [at] juno.com> To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com; ca… [at] list.sailnet.net; od… [at] list.sailnet.net Sent: Monday, April 21, 2008 1:49:42 PM Subject: [Cal_Boats] 1970 CAL 21 for sale Well, after having owned NODROG for 38 years, my Dad has reluctantly been trying to sell her for the past year. If you know of anyone looking to give a nice CAL 21 a good home, here is the link to our classified ad. http://www.bestboat buys.com/ featured_ detail_id. las?id=5BXwdNNgW HH5xfuMd I can provide more details on the equipment list, or just send my Dad an e-mail using the e-mail link in the ad. We do not have a trailer since we kept her on a mooring each summer. Price is a very reasonable $2500.00, but we might consider offers. Chris, I have updated the link in a second posting. I did not realize that BEST BOAT BUYS had apparently changed how the link worked or something, anyway I posted the link on the SailNet Cal-List as well and a kind member there let me know about the failed link and also posted the updated link for me. (no sarcasm, just quietly updated my link and I really appreciated that!) We thought on at least 2 occasions that we had found "the right person", but both had to back out for legitimate reasons, (well, the second one just got "cold feet" we think). If we can't find a buyer by May, my Dad is thinking strongly of donating the boat to a local Maritime Academy and take a tax deduction instead of the sale. I sympathize....I've owned (first with my dad) and cared for my other boat for 39 years (40th season when we launch on May 6). And now I've had my Cal 20 for about 8 years or so. If I had to sell either (maybe I should say, "when I have to sell either"), the first concern would be finding somebody who would enjoy the boats and maintain them properly. I look at my Cal and compare her to sister vessels, and she is in wonderful condition largely because somebody took good care of her (there's also a component of luck). When you have a nice boat, there's a certain obligation to find a proper person to pass the vessel on to. I just read an article on the recent restoration of Olin Stephens's Dorade, and while none of our boats have the uniqueness that characterizes that one, they are still historical specimens and useful, capable sailers that deserve preservation and deserve owners who will have fun sailing them. So good luck with the sale, and look for the right person as well as the money. Chris Campbell
