Carpet on the pilings

egiajack mentioned putting carpet on the pilings and that's one I've been curious about. My first slip had it. When I moved to a new slip, I was going to do the same. But the dock owner said that there was more chafing to a boat from the carpet than there was from the wood. Thoughts? Anne 4 Degrees Cal 2-29
