This is one of those simplistic questions that one must take with a smile: when was the last time you changed the transmission oil? I had some shifting issues when I bought our boat a few months ago. The oil hadn't been changed in several years. While changing it didn't completely resolve my shifting problem, there was a noticeable improvement. I'm still trying to find replacement cables. (I also need to find a new engine kill cable.) I'll take that one more step. Last fall I was having severe slippage problems with the POS Hurth mini-mixer behind my 25XPB. Fiver recommended that I change out the fluid, less than 100 hours, for a pure synthetic. I did, and my problems went away. Of course, I still need a real transmission, but I hope to be able to put off the expense for a while. Apparently the synthetic is such a good cleaner that it removes varnish and other bad stuff from the clutches.
