Best Cordless tool to shear or cut stainless steel bolts
Carlos Proa2008-05-31 21:35
I am getting around to replace my toerails in my 1979 CAL39MKII
shallow draft. While finsihing the grab rails and cutting by hand all
the protuding bolts - it dawn on me that there must be a better way -
I do not have access to electricity so my trusty ROTOZIP will not do
Anybody has suggestions? There will be a lot of bolts that I will need
to cut
Thanks

Well many people do not agree with this,
but dEmO grabs the extended past the nut part of the bolt with a pair of
vise grips,
and in usually three to four bends, breads off the stub. Then you hit it
with a file to
make sure any razor edges are gone.
A purist would never do this.. but it works well, and has caused no
problems with my
yachts yet.

That might be enough to justify a generator to power a Sawzall. When we took the toe rails
off Conquest, the guys were able to use a screwdriver and socket wrench on the bolts in
the track but the others were taken out with a Sawzall. An alternative would be to extract
the plugs and remove the rest of the bolts that way, especially if you were going to save
the rails and reuse them.
