Nice video clip! I like the horn off in distance... very nice. Is that a
crab pot up on your bow? Also... it looks like your crew was very quiet...
maybe thinking about a warm meal when they hit port. ;-)

I have our 1974 Cal 2-29 finished for the most part (of course, is any
boat ever finished?). We took our first sail as a family across the
bar Yesterday (Saturday, May 31) and had a great time. The kids loved
it. It was their first time sailing in the ocean.
Well, I knew that this boat would be too small for all of us (myself,
my wife and five kids) and had in mind to trade up in time. I guess
the time has already come. We will be looking for a boat between 36'
and 45' now after we sell the 29' that we have. The nice thing about
the 2-29 that we have is that we have a trailer for it so that it can
be stored on the trailer when it does not need to be in the slip.
Here is a short video clip of us motoring out over the bar here in

I want to thank all here for the help and information on "The Dreaded
Beam" when I found I needed to replace it. The new Stainless beam that
I made seems to be doing just fine. I am very pleased with the
Farymann diesel that is in this boat - it is all that is needed for
this boat and is very economical.

Yes, those are two crab pots on the bow. We hadn't really planned for
much of an outing except into the bay, but we decided to go out
instead of drop the crab pots in the bay.
What appeared as quietness was about the only quiet time on the boat
:) They were all having fun and were absorbed in watching what was
going on around them. There were four down below also.
The horn is the ever present fog horn on the jetty. You can always
hear it there.
Our crew is ALWAYS thinking of a warm meal! (five kids) :)

Stem Fitting
Michael D2008-06-02 13:22 UTC
Hi All,
FYI, I was doing some maintenance work on Magic yesterday morning and discovered that the stem fitting was failing. The SS was cracked about 1/3 of the way on each side just below the furler attachment point. We removed it and are having another fabricated. I have no idea if ours is a factory original part.
Regards,
Michael
