Port Lights, aka windows
Dan2008-06-13 23:42
I need to replace all four of the plastic port lights on our Cal 34-Mk
lll. I have the dimensions figured out but cannot find very many
options. Plastic is outdated. All of the new ones seem to be metal.
New Found Metals in Port Townsend, WA, sell the one that looks best.
They are import them from China with sticks in my hawse pipe a wee bit.
However, they look nice on line and are well priced. My sailing buddy,
a talented marine welder, says they are low grade stainless.
Has anyone here used or seen 'em? I would love to have some first hand
recon on them.
Cheers,
Dan

Dan, can I assume these are the non-fold-in windows (are you talking the
4 big ones)? The place to go is Mark Plastics (ask for Mark Heacox) in
Corona, CA. He has templates for just about every CAL. I've bought a
lot of stuff from him for our Annapolis CAL 25 fleet. If you need
specifics on phone and stuff, I'll dig it out.
Cheers

Another place to get the 4 big portlights is www.bomon.com. They custom make
them. Metal frames. I've had 4 of them for 5 years now, and they look as
good as new. They sent me 4 full size templates to be sure of the fit. Great
guys to work with, also.
I replaced the 4 opening ports with the NFM bronze ports. They also have
been trouble free for 5 years. I just wish they had the stainless ports when
I bought them! Would have matched the big ones better.
