Cal 39 change of owners and seeking sailing friends on the eastern seaboard....
I've owned a half-share in the Cal 39-2 "Spindrift" (Hull #105, 1980,
San Francisco CA) for the past five years, and my partner Deborah
Stern just bought me out so I could buy a cruising boat on the eastern
seaboard.
To that end, I've purchased "Alizee", a 2001 Cabo Rico 36 in
Annapolis. (Not a Cal 39, I know, but she's also not the slug some
might think.) I'll be in Annapolis from July 17-23 setting her up for
a trip down the Chesapeake, and then again from August 15-September
17, sailing her down to Norfolk, and around September 1st on down to
Oriental NC. I've got crew for the trips, though if anyone wants to
sign on for the ICW from Norfolk to Oriental (leave around 30 August/1
Sept ... perhaps five days), they'd be welcome.
I'm still going to be involved with "Spindrift" ... got some equity to
sail off, which the new skipper Deborah agrees to ... but I must
admit, I think I'm going to miss Cal boats. ... So, I'd like to keep
in touch with all of you who I know through the ethernet and meet some
of you on the east coast as well.
And, by the way, Caltopia 2008 will be held at the Richmond Yacht Club
in SF Bay on September 13 and 14. Should be updates at
http://www.calboats.org in a week or so. If not, check with Mike
Robinson at RYC.
Hope to hear from some of you east coast Cal sailors.
Fair winds,
Jim Williams
