The tiller is 49" long and 3.25" high at the max depth of curve, and 2" wide at the butt. The amount of taper they put is not an option.

Hi John,
Thanks for the speedy response. I have already contacted H&L marine
and they have the original specs for a Cal 29 & Cal 40 tiller in
their data base, but non for the 34.
I could order based on my existing tiller, but as I said, I'm
reluctant to do this as it looks a bit flimsy. I'm OK with the length
and height of the curve, but would really appreciate it if you could
let me know the butt width and height of the tiller on the boat next
to you.
Best regards,
Peter Mc Tague

but they have a database of production boat tillers. I know for
certain the first time I called them many years ago, that all I had
to say was Cal 34, and they knew what to make. If I remember
correctly, the last time I called they said the Cal 34 wasn't in
their database. The 34 I used to sail is next to my boat, so I can
get measurements if you need. If H&L doesn't have the 34 in the
database anymore, how they work is you choose one of 5 or 6 curves
that they do, you measure the butt width, overall length and heighth
of curve (straight line under the tiller measure heighth at max
point). I think that it was about $60 for a laminated tiller with 3
coats of varnish. The tillers I have ordered from them have matched
the originals exactly. I don't believe that I have their page with
tiller curves anymore, would have to get another from them.

Hi John,
Thanks for the feedback. The dimensions are certainly more substatial
than those of my tiller. In fact they are more substatial than those
of the Cal 40 which makes me think it is heavier than an original.
Cheers,
Peter

Maybe we're mis-communicating. The Cal 34 tiller dimensions I gave are smaller than my Cal 40 tiller in every dimension. When I said the butt is 2" across, I meant the part that bolts into the tiller to rudderhead piece. Unless someone has machined or cast a completely redesigned rudderhead the 2" should be the same on all 34s. Well a slight retraction, I've never been on the mark II or III versions of the Cal 34, so I don't know if they are different.
