Ira - You may be in luck.? We bought a Raymarine ST ?? a couple of years ago for our CS 30 and never got around to installing it so it is still in the box.? We have since?bought a Cal 39 and were not sure if it has the kahunas to handle the boat.? One guy said it should but the specs say up to 16,500lbs and were at 19,000.? I really don't know what weight has to do with it since the pressure on the wheel has more to do with it.? Let me contact Raymarine direct and I'll let you know. How soon do you need to know? Paul, Ira, I replaced my Autohelm 4000 in my Cal 2-39 five years ago, before we sailed from SD to SF. It still worked but some of the LCD segments were starting to fail. I kept the Autohelm linear drive unit but added a S2G corepack -- good for up to 24000 # displacement -- , and a ST 7001 control. I selected the G model to enable the MARPA function on the radar. The ST7001 also displays SOG, COG, etc. data from the GPS. It has a much more sophisticated control system then the (apparently analog) autohelm with rudder position and rate gyro inputs. The unit works very well. The S1 may be adequate for the C39 (easy to balance the helm), but I like having drive margin and didn't want to settle for less power than the AH4000. As for the Autohelm unit, I kept it in the garage for a few years in case someone came along that needed spare parts, but finally tossed it last year. Sorry Ira.
