Strut corrision
Randy Alcorn2008-10-03 17:51 UTC
I replaced my strut in Jan 2008. I am getting a lot of corrision and my diver is wanting to drill a hole in it to add a zinc.
I contacted Martec and they are against drilling and adding a zinc.
I want to run a ground from the mounting bolt in the boat. My boat does not have any grounds run.
Would I just run a ground to the engine block?

As long as it is tied into a zinc, it would work. The zinc on the
shaft should ground to the engine block although I know people who rig
a wiper to the shaft for a better connection if they have a flexible
connector in the drive train. If you are in a "hot marina," you could
even run a wire to a stanchion base and hang a second zinc from a clip
to that stanchion. Take it in when you go out.
