The Santa Barbarian sailors have a trip to pillage the Island of Santa Cruz the weekend of Sept. 8-9-10. We humbly invite all Cal Listees for some mild drinking (till we puke), laughing (till we puke), fine dinning (till we puke), and telling of lies (till we puke). An anchorage is yet to be decided but will be soon, and will be based on the number of boats attending and the ocean conditions. I believe we have half a dozen boats already attending from Santa Barbara and Ventura. Daniel Casey "Air Time" Cal 9.2R #75 Santa Barbara, Ca.

Hey Gang, in looking at the weather this morning, all looks great for spending the weekend at Little Scorpion anchorage. The wind will mostly be out of the West or Northwest (no small craft advisory), with a small swell out of the West. We are going to try and leave S. B. around 8:30 am on Friday. We have had a couple boats drop out, but still have plenty. See ya'll there. Daniel Casey Skipper: Airtime 3-B-24 Santa Barbara Harbor

3 boats made it Pelican Anchorage. 1 left after 9:00pm on Friday and was surprised that the forecasted small craft advisory, 25 knot winds dropped to 3 and they ended up motoring most of the way. 2 other boats left Saturday morning and had little wind as well. The sail home likewise was uneventful! How can the forecasters get it so wrong! The air and water was warm and cozy with full moon evenings that almost brings tears to one's eyes. Damn we missed out! Maybe next month. Daniel Casey "Air Time" Cal 9.2R #75 Santa Barbara, Ca.

Dan, What are the details on this? I've never been to Santa Cruz Island. Who may be going? Will there be any pirates? Talked to a fellow from a group disembarking from a chartered Catalina 46 that is kept at the end of my dock, on Sunday afternoon. Seems his group goes every year, and he says it's quite something. The weather Sat. looked so yucky.. (cold, cloudy, misting, threatening to rain but produced one measly short downpour just after sunset.) Last year Eric and I motored over to the Isthmus after the Cal Club CCCCC party ended at Howland's Landing, but couldn't find suitable mooring/anchorage and returned. Even our Last Ditch attempt to simply beach Shpitz and assault the enclave was thwarted by the officious men in gray. The following day we tried sailing around to Cat Harbor but gave up when we were struck with consistant 40mph downwash down the mountains from Santa Ana conditions. Probably something like that ate Steve Fosset last year, I reakon. A mite bit scary, even on just a reefed main, but one of my experianced sailor friends said a should have perservered and endered the Cat harbor anyway, and thinks I'd have been ok. Oh well, there's always ...gulp...next year.
