Hi Fellow Sailors, Greetings: I invite you, learning crew or barnacle-encrusted old salts, to share sailing/navigation/seamanship aboard my classic, well-equipped & seaworthy, CAL-39. My trips average 9/17d; next trip: March 1/17 (flexible), similarly other future trips; will exchange credentials/references & can meet in Boulder, CO. To join me, you must be in good health, capable of modest exercise, in a reasonable wt/hgt ratio, have a sense of humor & penchant for learning, and share a minimal overhead prorata: about $45/d. These trips informally follow us sailing assn agenda for ocean sailing, etc., for more details: ph#:303-444-2307, fx#303-444-2434. Fair Winds & Following Seas, Bill

12/18/08 Hi Chris, Good Morning, and best wishes for the holidays from the very bowels of wild and wooly west.... Thanx for your sense of humor re my location. However, these used to be an ocean hereabouts a while ago, and, no doubt, will be here again ...so I will be ready, but, most likely, will be at that time in a parallel universe... I used to sail a lot off US & Mexican West Coasts, and now off USSS coast, and like it a lot less....my personal background is in science& engineering, & teach extensive local seminars:sailing/safety on sea/navigation (including celestial)/etc. now& again I see you on the world famous Cal_Groups.... (They probably view my iceboat as a land sailor with runners where the wheels would be.) Somebody had sent me a link to a web site about a guy who's obsessed with engineering the fastest and most sophisticated version. That would appeal to your science & engineering training. For me, it's just the speed thrills--so fun to feel the acceleration and go fast, especially when you're lying prone about 8" off the ice surface. 25 mph feels like 90 at least. The whole iceboating world was turned upside-down by the Gougeon Brothers, purveyors of West System marine epoxies, when they turned their engineering talents toward making a better iceboat about 40 years ago. It's a way to get some sailing in during the off-season, or in your case, the off-epoch. My brother is a westerner (NW Wyoming) and he's perfectly happy there, but I get nervous when I'm >100 miles from a Great Lake or ocean for more than a week. Chris Campbell > > >
