Cal25 foredeck beams
Scott Austin2009-01-08 14:21
I'm replacing some of the foredeck plywood core, which has resulted in
the need to replace the beams under the deck. My boat has 3 made of 4"
dia cardboard split in half and overlaid with 2-3 layers of fabric.
The aft beam is ~22" forward of the hatch, the forward is ~4" aft of
the vent, and the last is halfway between them.
However, I've heard some people mention that their Cal25 only has two
reinforcements. So the questions to you are:
- Were these a factory-installed item?
- How many reinforcements does your Cal25 have?
- What shape are they?
- Where are they located?
BTW, my plan is to replace mine with 2"x4" (actual dimensions, with
0.75" radius corners) reinforcements made of blue "styrofoam"
insulation overlaid with cloth.

My two 25's each have three supports constructed as you mentioned...but appear to be a little thicker than 3 sheets of glass. I would say the thickness is comparable to two sheets of the 'strand/matt/matt' stuff you buy from the glass supplier.
