Re: [Cal_Boats] CAL 30's
BIG DIFFERENCE!
CAL 30 has a traditional transom, 2-30 has a reverse transom and the
backstay on the 2-30 terminates at a fitting just above the waterline.
The 30 has a step to the deckhouse, the cabin top is on 2 levels with the
aft 4' +/- being about 6" +/- higher than the forward portion. The 30 is
much more traditional in appearance, the 2-30 more modern-classic
(typical early 1970's cruiser-racer). The 30 has a masthead rig, and it
is typical 1960's cruiser look, ie: long boom and somewhat short mast.
The 2-30 had a 15/16 fractional rig (some were fitted with masthead rig
instead?) and has a shorter boom and taller mast.
Hauled out you will see that the 30 has a full-keel with attached rudder,
the 2-30 has the more "Lapworth look" fin-keel and spade rudder.
Basically, the 2-30 looks like a CAL 29 with a longer stern and taller
rig. Above the waterline, the 30 looks like the original CAL 24, but
bigger and with a larger deckhouse.
Hope this helps!

Was cruising the internet looking at boat pics and was wondering if there
are
any "visual" differences topsides between the CAL 30 and CAL 2-30. I mean
above the water line and features that allow you to distinguish between
the
two boat models from a short distance.
Best regards and thanks
